EU AI Act Breakdown (Part 2) // What about AI-generated text?

Several people have also asked if text written or edited by AI needs to be labelled.

Under Article 50, the rules for text are slightly different:

• Public Interest Text // If text is generated by AI and published to inform the public on matters of public interest (such as news, policy, or public health), disclosure is required.

• The Human Editorial Exception //  You DO NOT need to label AI text if it undergoes substantive human review or editorial control, and where a person or company holds legal/editorial responsibility for the final output.

• Assistive Writing & Marketing // Using tools like ChatGPT, Grammarly, or translation software to draft, edit, or polish standard copy, social media posts, or marketing materials does not require an AI label, provided a human reviews it and takes responsibility for the published text.
